Emergency

Make it safe first, then call.

For the most common emergencies in a building: three immediate steps each, followed by the number where vewa can be reached day and night.

If people are in danger, always call 112 first

Fire, smoke, smell of gas, injuries or people trapped: call the European emergency number 112 immediately. Then inform vewa.

What happened?

Water damage or burst pipe
  1. Close the apartment’s main valve; for a larger leak, the building’s main valve in the basement.
  2. Switch off power in affected rooms if water can reach sockets or lights.
  3. Take photos and tell your neighbours, especially on the floor below.

Heating or hot water has failed
  1. Check whether only your apartment is affected: thermostat, fuse, radiator valves.
  2. Ask your neighbours. If the whole building is affected, it is the central plant.
  3. Note the meter reading and the time, then report it.

Lift is stuck
  1. If people are trapped: press the alarm button in the car, it is connected to the maintenance company.
  2. Talk to the people inside, keep them calm, do not open the doors yourself.
  3. In a medical emergency call 112 at once.

Power cut in stairwell or garage
  1. Check whether the whole street is dark. Then the fault lies with the grid operator.
  2. Do not use open flames, use a torch.
  3. Note the place and time and report it.

Front door, gate or locking system broken
  1. Avoid leaving the building open if you can.
  2. If there are signs of a break in, touch nothing and call 112.
  3. Take photos and report it, vewa will organise a locksmith.

Storm, hail or roof damage
  1. Keep away from loose parts and avoid the area below the eaves.
  2. Close windows and skylights, catch any water.
  3. Once it is safe, take photos from outside and report it.
